We must act with focus to address root causes of the environmental crisis.
We must act together to benefit from the multiplier effect of collective action.
We must act now before it’s too late.

The science is in. As a global community, we know what we need to do to mitigate and adapt to the escalating ramifications of interrelated climate change and biodiversity loss. So why aren’t we accelerating the necessary actions with the speed and scale required to avoid this threat to all life on the planet?
Among other factors, we believe human behavior and political will to be the crux of the issue, and thus, BurlingtonGreen’s strategic work throughout 2024 focused on these two key areas as part of our overarching framework.
The following information including associated graphics summarize some of the key progress achieved during 2024 in the advancement of our 5-year Strategic Plan objectives.
In 2024 we updated our Vision, Mission and Values as part of our new 5-year Strategic Plan and our journey forward:
our vision
A Burlington where everyone recognizes that we are all connected to, and dependent on the environment, and acts on this understanding to ensure a sustainable future for all life.
our mission
Through awareness, advocacy, and action, we empower the Burlington community to protect and care for the environment, now and for the future.
The launch of our 200,000 Eco Actions by 2030 Campaign demonstrated a targeted step forward to mobilize the local community to recognize the essential role we all play in contributing to a healthier environment.
Underpinned by the priority for accelerated, effective action for the climate change emergency and the ecological crisis, the advancement of sustainable communities, the protection and care for local nature, and circular economy/low waste strategies remained the 3 primary areas for continued leadership and programming by BurlingtonGreen.
The ripple effect of impact we achieved together with the community was tremendous.
Throughout Burlington (and beyond via our extensive online reach), we successfully advanced our strategic priorities through our ‘triple A’ approach of Awareness, Advocacy and Action. This included various calls to action on important environmental issues.
Some of the results of our extensive efforts carried out throughout 2024 are presented in the following impact graphics:
More of the Burlington community became informed of environmental information and opportunities as a result of our extensive engagement efforts. Our online audience grew by almost 10% during the year, and we experienced an increase of 84% in the number of partnerships we advanced compared to 2023.
The implementation of an Indigenous Relations Policy and team member participation in educational Truth and Reconciliation e-learning sessions are important initiatives taken by BurlingtonGreen as part of our ongoing efforts to authentically action our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging values and responsibilities.
A dedicated focus on actions to help BurlingtonGreen become more resilient as an organization resulted in some important outcomes.
Succession planning priorities were advanced with the welcoming of 4 new Board Directors and the initiation of a skills matrix process. Six new values were introduced to guide BurlingtonGreen’s governance, operations and decision-making.
2024 marked year 2 of our 3-year The Time is Now fundraising campaign. An impressive 73% of our overall goal to raise $300,000 was achieved, with team members continuing hard at work throughout the year ahead to fill the remaining financial gap with the funding essential to support immediate programming needs.

supporters
We are tremendously grateful to the various grant funders, community partners, sponsors and donors for their critical contributions and collaborations, powering our important work throughout 2024. We maximized every dollar received to achieve maximum impact to help the planet, locally.

teamwork
BurlingtonGreen’s volunteer Board of Directors and staff members comprise a team of talented, passionate, hard-working individuals committed to to making positive change happen here in Burlington. As the implications of climate change and biodiversity loss and other environmental issues, escalate, so too do the demands on our team. Resiliency, perseverance and a collective determination to advance our important mission work remains paramount to our effectiveness.
During 2024, four new Directors joined our Board, and we were unable to regrow our staff capacity due to continued funding constraints.

2024 financial highlights
The funding landscape in 2024 continued to be precarious including reduced grant support. This resulted in continued reduced staff capacity at a time of growing demands being placed on our organization from all sectors of the community.
In addition to the pursuit of grant funding, our three-year The Time is Now fundraising campaign remained the focus of our priority efforts to achieve ongoing and long-term financial sustainability.
