The Role (Three roles available)

BG’s Board of Directors is a hands-on and welcoming team of volunteers working together to increase climate action throughout the community. Our current strategic plan guides our journey with a strong focus on collective impact.

The time commitment is approximately 8-15 hours monthly, including Board meetings and committee work. Directors serve for a one-year renewable term, with a commitment to an initial 3-year contribution.

You’ll benefit from professional leadership development, cross-industry networking, and comprehensive governance experience.

As a member of the BG Board, you will take part in the following:

  • Steer BG to help the community meet the critical challenges and opportunities of the climate and ecological crisis
  • Contribute through your unique voice, professional and lived experience
  • Help guide the long-term strategic plan, annual budget and performance targets
  • Monitor financial and fundraising performance, progress against goals/objectives, and policy compliance including oversight and annual review of the Executive Director

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings and participate in regular Board activities
  • Collaborate on decisions to build the collective impact and financial security and further BG’s mission
  • Help to maintain constructive group processes and excellence in governance
  • Undertake additional special responsibilities, including serving on one Board committee and participating in BG events and activities, including networking and fundraising

BurlingtonGreen is committed to creating a workforce and governing board that reflects the diversity of the populations we serve. Studies show that members of underrepresented communities do not apply for postings unless they are 100% “qualified” (Harvard Business Review post, 2014). If this is part of the reason you hesitate to apply, we encourage you to reconsider and give it a chance.

Applications from all qualified individuals, including applicants from all cultures and backgrounds, racialized communities, diverse sexual and gender identities, and physical or mental abilities are welcome. We are committed to a selection process and work environment that is inclusive and barrier-free. We also encourage applicants to self-identify if they wish to do so.

We look forward to hearing from you!
