The CWF Great Canadian Bioblitz is a fun and easy way to connect with nature while learning about the wildlife that call Canada home.

Wherever you are in Canada, snap photos or capture sound recordings of everything you find – from iconic wildlife to tiny insects, from birds, bugs and bees to wild plants and trees. Upload them using the free iNaturalist app or online at iNaturalist.ca, and you’ve helped take a “nature selfie” of Canada. You’ve also contributed to an active database scientists use to track and conserve biodiversity across Canada and around the world. AND you’ll also be eligible to win prizes by participating! How to Participate in the CWF Great Canadian Bioblitz
Recording Observations (September 18-27)
From September 18 to 27, 2026, all you have to do is record nature observations. Use your mobile device to upload observations and sound recordings directly into our account through the app. You can also use a digital camera and upload photos by signing into your account at iNaturalist.ca — this also works for smartphone photos if you prefer heading online over using an app. Remember, since you already joined the CWF Great Canadian Bioblitz project on iNaturalist, all the observations you make will be automatically added to the project, so you don’t need to do anything else to make them count. Together with participants across the country, we’ll be adding in observations as we contribute to Canada’s nature selfie!

Identifying Observations (September 28 – October 4)
After a week of observations comes the opportunity to identify what species were found (and finish uploading your observations from the last week!). You’ll have until October 4, 2026 to help identify everything that you and others have recorded as part of the CWF Great Canadian Bioblitz. Whether you’re a species expert or simply knowledgeable about certain species, helping to verify the observations helps confirm what species people actually observed. Every ID helps, even if just triaging to groups like “reptiles” or identifying every Blue Jay observed.

Blitzing Colleges and Universities:
• We’re inviting college and universities to hold bioblitzes any time from September 18-27 either on campus or areas in your community.
• Your bioblitz will automatically add to the Great Canadian Bioblitz and can be part of a partner initiative with the Campus Biodiversity Network called the Campus Nature Challenge.
• All it takes is an iNaturalist project and some keen students and staff!
• We encourage all participating campuses to join the Campus Biodiversity Network and welcome all post-secondary institutions interested in participating in the bioblitz.
