Emily is excited to have joined the BurlingtonGreen team as a Program Assistant for the spring/summer 2023 period. Emily’s contributions to BurlingtonGreen began much earlier, during high school when she was a part of the Burlington Transit Youth Ambassador program which as organized by BurlingtonGreen and Burlington Transit.
Emily continued her passion for the environment by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Sustainable Agriculture at Trent University. Her highlight of her undergrad was spending a semester abroad in Norway climbing glaciers and swimming in the fjords. After graduation she became an Environmental Lab Technician, analyzing water and soil samples.
Emily loves to be outside and engage with the public about her passions, she is excited for a fun summer at Burlington Green!
As stewards of the earth, we have the responsibility to honour and respect the four directions, land, waters, plants, animals, and all of the wonderful elements of creation that exist.We honour all the First Nation, Métis and Inuit people who have been living on the land since time immemorial and we recognize their leadership in protecting and caring for Mother Earth.
In Burlington, our work with the community takes place within the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, represented by Treaty 14 and 19 and on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg (Ah-nish-in-nah-beg), Attawandaron (At-tah-wahn-da-ron), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-oh-sho-nee) and Metis peoples.We honour these rightful caretakers of this sacred land surrounding the Great Lakes, and we are grateful for their teachings.
BurlingtonGreen has much to learn from Indigenous People and we encourage everyone to continually learn from and about the Indigenous community where you live, and how we can each meaningfully honour the calls to action for Truth and Reconciliation.
