This week the federal government announced an exciting new target that by 2035, 100% of Canadian car sales will be electric vehicles (EVs). This is a big win for the climate, but there are still a lot of questions remaining as to how we’re going to get there. To meet the new targets, manufacturers will have to massively ramp up their supply of EVs, and car dealerships will actually have to start stocking and selling them. But they are not going to do that just because the government asked them to, especially as carmakers are more interested in selling gas-guzzling SUVs and pickup trucks for as long as they can. To make this transition work for people, as well as for the planet, the government needs to act to ensure that EVs are both affordable and accessible.
Now is our chance to make sure that Canada gets this right. Click the link below to tell the federal government to support the shift to 100% EV sales, by requiring car companies to sell an increasing number of EVs each year, and improving financial incentives to make them affordable for everyone who needs them.
