Some Good News! Transit Funding

A  poll finds overwhelming support for governments to keep transit running safely and conveniently during the pandemic. According to the poll, 82% of Canadians want federal funding for transit to continue.

Transit agencies across Canada have suffered a massive drop in ridership during COVID, some are losing millions of dollars a week due to decreased ridership. The federal and provincial governments have stepped in to support transit services, and Canadians asked that this support be permanent. Transit support and a shift to low carbon transportation are integral to a green and just COVID recovery.

David Suzuki Foundation: More than 6,300 of you sent letters to the federal ministers of infrastructure and finance asking for permanent funding for transit. Your voices were heard. In February 2021, the federal government announced permanent transit funding for cities beginning in 2026.
