Climate Change is the most defining crisis of our time, affecting all of us and all life we share the earth with.
In early 2020, the City of Burlington established a Climate Action Plan following up on the climate emergency it declared a year earlier, joining cities around the world in recognizing the necessity to act with urgency on this global crisis.
The City’s Climate Action Plan charts a path forward to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Burlington and we know that it will take strong, accountable political leadership and all of us fortunate to live and work in this city actively adopting greener practices if we are to achieve the shared goal of ensuring a healthy, livable, resilient community.
To support the community in taking action on climate change here in Burlington, our Make the Switch resources aim to inform and empower, while our resident-driven Community Eco-Network works to activate environmental leadership by government.
amplifying our collective voice
The Community Eco-Network is a welcoming, non-partisan, inclusive opportunity open to residents (including youth) who are keen to learn about climate change and local environmental issues, and how we can amplify our collective voice to speak up for positive change, and a green, just recovery here in Burlington.
The Network participates with various initiatives such as the David Suzuki Foundation’s Future Ground Network, Everyday Advocates, Community Climate Hub, Project Drawdown, and others, tapping into their resources, solutions and campaigns, to support community organizing strategies here in Burlington.
We host educational virtual events and Zoom meet-ups throughout the year and collectively spread the word to the broader community on issues that matter to all of us to support our shared aim to ensure a healthy, resilient environment for now, and for the future.
