The proposal raises serious concerns related to water protection, species at risk, flooding, ecological connectivity, and long\u2011term community resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Evidence shows that the highway would save drivers less than one minute on average across the region. Despite this minimal benefit, the project would cost taxpayers billions of dollars. What YOU Can Do<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n What\u2019s Happening, Why It Matters, and the Risks to Our Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Why Highway 413 matters to local communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Highway 413 is more than a transportation project. Its construction would permanently alter natural systems that protect communities from flooding, clean our drinking water, and support wildlife. Fragmenting ecosystems reduces their ability to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n These impacts extend beyond the highway corridor itself and would affect downstream communities, including Burlington. Although the highway itself won\u2019t cut across watersheds that pass through Burlington, the additional paving and development that is likely to accompany the highway will disrupt drainage through Halton Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Limited transportation benefits and high costs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Several concerns have been raised about whether the project would meaningfully address congestion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
