Kale Black

Senior Program Coordinator

Kale has been a part of the BurlingtonGreen team since he was introduced to the organization through his high school co-op placement in 2008. He was BG’s first event Youth Program Coordinator and has been instrumental in the launch and development of the BurlingtonGreen Youth Network, Healthy Habitats, Kids Go Green, Burlington Transit Youth Ambassador and Event Greening Programs.

In addition to his passion for sustainability, he is also very involved in the world of Holistic Health. With a strong belief that healthy humans create a healthy planet, he does his best to balance his time between his environmental work with BurlingtonGreen and his work as a Holistic Health Practitioner and Meditation Facilitator.

Some of his environmental achievements include::

  • Co-ordinated the event greening efforts at 40+ events in the city, resulting in more than 60 tonnes of recyclables/compostables diverted from the landfill.
  • Participated in over 100 habitat restoration events in Halton (cleanups, plantings, invasive species removals).
  • Recruited thousands of volunteer hours from the local community, helping to connect citizens who care with meaningful opportunities to make a positive difference.
  • Personally led eco-focused workshops for almost 9,000 children through BG's Kids Go Green program.
  • And, he has co-led the planning of 6 Youth Eco-Summits, reaching over 2,000 students from grades 7–12.

Kale's valuable contributions have been recognized at various times, including:
