NEW !
BurlingtonGreen is looking for your help with seasonal stewardship activities.
This initiative is your opportunity to really help the environment, have some fun and make new connections with BurlingtonGreen volunteers.
Visit our facebook or calendar pages for upcoming Saturday Stewardship dates and opportunities. We provide gloves, sunscreen and refreshments - all you will need is a re-usable water bottle!
Current project status: Back story: During the spring of 2010, BurlingtonGreen focused on garlic mustard removal. Read the Biodiversity Education and Awareness Network's Garlic Mustard Fact Sheet to learn more about this invasive alien species.
2010 GARLIC MUSTARD SEASON CLOSED - we completed one small event at Canada Centre for Inland Waters. BG is exploring options for future work at this site. - two events were completed at Gary Allay High School/General Brock Park, for a combined total removal of 15 xx-large bags. - two events were completed at LaSalle Park Marina (Halton Natural Areas Inventory #51, a recommended Halton Region ESA); 11 xx-large bags were removed in total. - BurlingtonGreen participated in the Crawford Lake Garlic Mustard Pest-O-Fest, at which 9 xx-large bags were removed from a section of the Bruce Trail. In future, BurlingtonGreen hopes to cooperate with the City of Burlington, the Royal Botanical Gardens, Conservation Halton and other partners, to expand Garlic Mustard activities in Burlington's City parks and natural areas.
If you would like to get involved with Saturday Stewardship events in 2010 (and/or 2011 planning), please contact Dianne Watkins with Stewardship Volunteer in the subject line.
