BurlingtonGreenĀ was pleased to present an exciting line-up of award winning films for the 2010 Eco-film festival!
Our festival began on Thursday, March 11 with the screening of "Blue Gold: World Water Wars" which is an extremely engaging film about water as a basic human right & the various powers that are trying to take control of the public's water for profit and control. To learn more about the bottled water issue locally, click here.
Our second film was "Chemerical" which was screening strategically at spring cleaning time to serve as an important opportunity to learn more about eco-friendly cleaning practices. Our third event screened the Academy Award nominated Best Documentary "Food Inc" and our guests enjoyed delicious organic cookies courtesy of Eco Chefs. Discussion focused on what individual efforts each of us can take to support local, healthy food choices and more. Check out our tip sheet here. Thank you Dorothy Wilson for your local food recipe to share with all. Click here for recipe.
Our fourth film was H2Oil which turned out to be timely in the wake of the BP oil explosion. This film focuses on the social, economic and of course environmental implications of the Alberta Tar Sands, one of the largest oil patches in the world-second only to Saudi Arabia.Following the film, the audience discussed their thoughts on human and Burlington's dependancy on oil and actions we can each take to lower this dependency. To learn more about this issue, visit the H2Oil website here.
Our final film was The Age of Stupid which we chose as the "summary" film focusing on the significance of globl warming and how critical it is that we TAKE ACTION NOW before it is too late. Future generations will ask why we did not do something to prevent irreversibel consequences when we had the chance.
We hope to offer a similar Eco-Film festival in 2011 so let us know of any eco-focused documentary titles you recommend and would like to see by submitting them in the comments form below.
