Why is there a crisis and what is the link between bees and food? Jan. 22, 7:30pm $5 Admission Burlington Baptist Church, 2225 New Street www.burlingtonbaptist.com or call 905-335-5537
Join this discussion with Dr. Laurence Packer, Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies, York University. Dr. Packer is a melittologist (an entomologist who specializes in the study of all bees).
Bees do so much more than supply honey and beeswax. Bee pollination of crops, something on which most farmers rely heavily, is responsible for a large percentage of world food supplies. Unless the cause and cure for Colony Collapse Disorder is found soon, the supply of many fruits, nuts, and vegetables could be affected, as well as stock feed and grains.
Learn about the wonderful world of bees, the crisis affecting bee populations, the role of bees other than honey bees in pollination and environmental monitoring, as well as what individuals can do to help mitigate the problem.
