The City of Burlington Celebrates World Environment Day

Saturday, June 5, 2010 - 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Rain or Shine)

Burlington City Hall, 426 Brant Street

Come out and help the city celebrate World Environment Day on Saturday, June 5th.  We are having a free, fun filled day at Burlington City Hall with activities, displays and presentations between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., rain or shine.

Learn about the Mountsberg birds of prey.  Listen to Aaron Bell, an Ojibway storyteller. Check out Reptile Rob’s friends.  Make an eco pledge button with BurlingtonGreen. Plant some native seeds with the Burlington Sustainable Development Committee.  And more ...

For parents, staff from the Royal Botanical Gardens will be speaking about “Having fun in nature – why connecting kids with nature is important.”  Green fleet vehicles will be showcased in the Elgin Street parking lot outside of City Hall, including Burlington Hydro’s new 100 per cent electric vehicle.  Ride your bike and have it checked out by a professional technician.

There will be a lot of learning opportunities on energy conservation, more blue and green for a better planet, escarpment discoveries, climate change and the BurlingtonGreen Youth Network.  The St. Gabriel Elementary School green team will be speaking about why it’s cool to be an eco-school and students from Halton Waldorf School will be showcasing their green initiatives.
This event follows on the heels of Take Action Burlington, a community climate change summit that recently took place at the Royal Botanical Gardens, where community members were engaged on local sustainability initiatives.  Don’t forget to sign our Take Action banners and let us know what you are doing to reduce your impact on the environment.

Mark your calendar for June 5th.  For further information, please see www.burlington.ca/TakeAction.
