The City of Burlington has initiated a study into the development of a comprehensive Urban Forest Management Plan. The objectives of the study are to:
- Review and document the benefits of the urban forest.
- Review the City’s current practices in all areas relating to trees and compare them against best practices and the City’s strategic goals.
- Support future policy and budget setting, and the implementation of recommendations.
- Promote Burlington’s urban forest.
The Urban Forest Management Plan will address the wide range of challenges facing the City’s ability to manage its urban forest. These challenges include: competition and compatibility with infrastructure, invasive species, pests and pathogens, hazards posed by some trees, changes in land use, climate change, limited financial resources and the ownership and care of trees on private property.
Public consultation will be undertaken as part of the development of the Urban Forest Management Plan. The first public meeting will take place at the following time and place:
Public information Centre, February 4, 2010, 6 to 8 p.m. Presentations start at 6:30 p.m., Tyandaga Municipal Golf Course Club House 1265 Tyandaga Park Drive, Burlington, ON
