From the Government of Ontario's Environmental Registry:

Ontario is proposing policy changes to its waste management framework that are intended to:

Achieve greater diversion and deliver environmental and economic outcomes;

Make producers responsible for their products and packaging, thereby promoting more environmentally friendly products, more investment in innovative technologies, and more waste diversion services;

Provide the public with more opportunities to recycle more materials; and

Place the province among leading jurisdictions in waste diversion.

The Minister's Report is intended to facilitate public and stakeholder dialogue on the Ministry's proposed waste diversion framework. The Ministry encourages all interested parties to reflect on their experiences and provide feedback on the proposal. Your feedback is critical to establishing a clear and effective framework for waste diversion in Ontario.

Public Consultation:

This proposal has been posted for a 75 day public review and comment period starting October 28, 2009. If you have any questions, or would like to submit your comments, please do so by February 1, 2010 via this link

Note: BurlingtonGreen is working to encourage the City of Burlington to adopt  zero waste operations.
The May, 2009 Council decision to ban  bottled water from city facilities is one positive step in the right direction but we are still patiently waiting for it to be implemented.
